SAN ANTONIO – UTSA cross country will venture to the Commonwealth of Kentucky to participate in the Conference USA Championships, hosted by Western Kentucky in Bowling Green, Ky., at the Spero Kereiakes Park.
WKU will host the 2019 Conference USA Championships in Bowling Green, Ky., with the men's 8,000 meters slated to start at 9 a.m. and the women's 5,000 meters set for a 10 a.m. start.
UTSA is joined by Charlotte, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, Rice, Southern Miss, UTEP and WKU.
Seven women and seven men will represent UTSA at the meet. Sophomore Abby Balli (Pasadena, Texas), sophomore Amber Boyd (Copperas Cove, Texas), senior Sarah Estrada (Boerne, Texas), senior Colleen Gilbert (Austin, Texas), senior Gabby Gonzales (Uvalde, Texas), sophomore Brianna Gonzalez (San Antonio) and sophomore Marissa Martinez (San Antonio) will represent the women. The men will be represented by junior Matthew David (Lahoma, Okla.), junior Zack Kovar (Austin, Texas), senior Martin Luevano (Boerne, Texas), senior Josh Rodriguez (Boerne, Texas), senior Peter Sepulveda (Laredo, Texas), sophomore Jake Smith (Yuma, Ariz.) and freshman Elliot Moran (Exeter, England).
Last year, UTSA finished seventh in the 8,000-meter event, hosted by Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla., and the women finished 10th in the 5,000 meters. Sepulveda led UTSA's finishers last year with a 30th overall finish, with Smith placing 33rd, Luevano 34th, Rodriguez 39th and David 57th.
The women saw seven competitors clock collegiate 5K personal records in the event in 2018, including Gilbert, who placed 39th. Boyd finished 47th, Gonzalez placed 53rd and Gonzales finished 55th. Balli placed 64th and Martinez finished 74th.
