SAN ANTONIO – UTSA cross country will wrap up its regular-season slate with the Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, on Saturday at 9 a.m. CT at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course.
The men will open the event at 9 a.m. with the 8,000 meters, with the women running the 6,000 meters at 9:45.
A total of 32 teams are competing in the event, including 18 men's teams and 17 women's teams ranked in the region rankings. UTSA is joined by four conference brethren in the event, including Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Middle Tennessee and Rice. The Blue Raiders are the lone men's team in the national top 30, checking in No. 17.
The Roadrunners will send women's runners, sophomore Abby Balli (Pasadena, Texas), junior Amber Boyd (Copperas Cove, Texas), senior Sarah Estrada (Boerne, Texas), senior Briana Gonzalez (Ulvade, Texas), senior Gabby Gonzales (San Antonio, Texas), sophomore Brooke Lomax (Katy, Texas), sophomore Marissa Martinez (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore Chloe Munoz (Schertz, Texas). Balli and Boyd each own a pair of top-20 finishes in 2019, with Boyd placing sixth at the UIW Invitational 5K on Sept. 14.
The men will feature sophomore Jose Corona (Rio Grande City, Texas), junior Matthew David (Lahoma, Okla.), sophomore Garret Fowler (Kingwood, Texas), junior Zack Kovar (Austin, Texas), senior Martin Luevano, senior Josh Rodriguez (Boerne, Texas), senior Peter Sepulveda (Laredo, Texas) and sophomore Jake Smith. Fowler and Smith will be making their season debuts. Luevano, a native of Boerne, Texas, owns a top-20 finish at the UIW Invitational, placing 15th in the 5,000 meters.
