Boyd, Gilbert earn top-10 finishes in season-opening meet

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA cross country junior Amber Boyd and senior Coleen Gilbert earned top-10 finishes in the season-opening meet at the UIW Opener, held on Friday at the Classic Elites Soccer Complex. 
 
A native of Austin, Texas, Gilbert placed eighth (15:27) to lead the Roadrunners, while Boyd, a native of Copperas Cove, Texas, finished 10th (15:49).
 
Abby Ball (13th), Olivia Flores (29th), Marissa Martinez (32nd), Briana Gonzalez (35th), Sofia Salinas (42nd) and Gabby Gonzales (44th) rounded out UTSA's top-50 finishes. 
 
On the men's side, UTSA was led by Josh Rodriguez, a native of Boerne, Texas, who finished 35th (20:14.8). Zack Kovar (38th), Dominic Cavasos (39th), Omar Bekdache (42nd) and Matthew David (50th) finished in the top 50. 
 
The women ran a 4K and the men competed in a 6K. 
 
UTSA will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 14 for a second meet at UIW, held at Oak City Park.
