BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Hilltoppers clinched the series finale with an 11-2 victory Sunday afternoon.
The Roadrunners fall to 20-30 in the season and 8-16 in C-USA play.
Jordan Thomas opened the bottom of the first with a single to right field. Maddie Bowlds reached on an error as Thomas advanced to third. Bowlds then stole second and Plese was walked. With one out, Vorbrink was walked and Thomas scored. Kennedy Sullivan singled up the middle, scoring Bowlds. The Hilltoppers led 2-0 after the first.
WKU added six more runs in the bottom of the second. McGuffin hit a solo homer to left field and Thomas followed with a walk. Bowlds singled to the pitcher as Thomas advanced to second. Runners advanced on a ground out and Smith reached on a fielder's choice as Thomas scored. Back-to-back walks and a sac fly added another run for the Hilltoppers. McElroy singled up the middle, then advanced to second on the throw as Sullivan and Vorbrink scored. WKU led 8-0 going to the third.
In the top of the third, Hannah Boring singled to second base, then reached second on a wild pitch. Boring advanced to third on a fly out, then reached home off a sac fly from Bailee Baldwin.
With two outs on the board, Bailee Baldwin hit a solo homer to right field as the Roadrunners trailed, 2-8. Madison Washington followed with a single up the middle, but couldn't reach home.
Thomas doubled to left center in the bottom of the fifth. Bowlds singled up the middle as Thomas advanced to third. A three-run homer to left center from Plese increased the lead to nine and claimed the win.
The Roadrunners are set to compete in the 2019 Air Force Reserve Softball Championship May 8-11 in Birmingham, Ala. Seedings will be announced later today.
