SAN ANTONIO – The Roadrunners defeated the Cardinals 13-2 Wednesday evening at H-E-B field.
UTSA improves to 17-18 (6-6 C-USA) on the season, while Incarnate Word falls to 4-24.
Celeste Loughman started the game with a lead-off single to third, then stole second. Bailee Baldwin hit a double to center, scoring Loughman. Baldwin then stole third as Madison Washington hit a ground out. A single to left field from Riley Grunberg added another run for UTSA as Baldwin scored. Victoria Villarreal reached second on an error as Grunberg scored. Teanna Lucio singled to right field, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Hope Sobelow doubled to the right side and Lucio scored. UTSA led 3-1 after the first.
In the top of the second, Kaitlin Lopez singled to left field and Paige Pacher followed with a double to left field as Lopez scored. Loughman hit a single to the shortstop, then stole second to reach scoring position. Baldwin reached first on a scoring error, then stole second as Pacher and Loughman scored. Kindell Brooks singled and was tagged out at second as Baldwin scored. Washington singled to center field and Riley Grunberg was walked. Villarreal singled to right field as runners advanced. Brycen Blinco hit a line out to second and Washington reached home on an error. Lopez hit a double to center field as runners advanced and Grunberg scored. A single from Pacher scored Villarreal and Loughman followed with a double down the left line as Lopez scored. Baldwin was walked and with bases loaded, Brooks was walked as Pacher reached home. Washington hit a popup to end the inning. The Roadrunners led 12-1 after the second.
Madison Washington had the final run of the game in the top of the fifth with a solo homer to right center as UTSA led 13-1. In the bottom of the frame, Hailey Goins was hit by a pitch to reach first. Jordan Goins grounded out at Hailey Goins advanced to second. With two outs, Teanna Lucio singled to center as Hailey Goins scored.
Madison Nelson picked up her seventh win of the season, pitching two innings and allowing three hits and just one run. Clarissa Hernandez pitched two innings, allowing just one hit with one strikeout.
UTSA had 13 hits, while UIW had five hits and three errors.
The Roadrunners return to action April 6-7 at Southern Miss.
