SAN ANTONIO – A two-run walk-off homer from Madison Washington pushed the Roadrunners past the Cardinals Tuesday evening at Roadrunner Field.
The Roadrunners improve to 18-26 on the season, while UIW falls to 4-37.
In the top of the fourth, Teanna Lucio reached first on an error with one out. Shelby Neatherlin singled to shortstop and Hope Sobolewski followed with a single up the middle. Lucio scored on a wild pitch as runners advanced. Renee Hoffman hit a sac fly to left center as Neatherlin scored. A ground out ended the inning as the Cardinals led 2-0 after the fourth.
The Roadrunners tied up the game in the bottom of the sixth. Madison Washington had a fly out to center field and Riley Grunberg reached on an error. Kylea Nix hit her first home run of the season with a two-run homer to left center, scoring Grunberg and tying the game at two.
Madison Washington hit a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to take the game. Starting off the inning, Hannah Boring hit a ground out to the pitcher, while Celeste Loughman hit a single to the pitcher. Bailee Baldwin reached on a fielder's choice as Loughman was tagged out at second. Washington hit the homer to right center field to score Baldwin and help the Roadrunners take a 4-2 victory.
Marena Estell picked up her fourth win of the season, entering the game in the top of the fifth. The freshman pitched three innings with one walk and two strikeouts.
The Roadrunners return to action this weekend when they host UTEP for the final home series of the season. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
