Roadrunners to travel to Houston for J. Fred Duckett Twilight on Saturday

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA track and field teams will travel to Houston for the 16th annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight on Saturday, April 20, at Wendel D. Ley Track and Holloway Field on the Rice campus.
 
The Roadrunners will line up against athletes from Angelo State, Cameron, Dallas Baptist, Houston, Houston Baptist, McNeese State, Prairie View A&M, Rice, St. Edward's, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Lutheran, Texas Southern, UIW and UTRGV in the non-scored meet.
 
Saturday's action will get underway with field events beginning at 9:30 a.m. Running events are slated to start at 3:45 p.m. Live results will be available at http://www.flashresultstexas.com/2019/jfduckett19/.
 
UTSA last competed at the Texas A&M Invitational last weekend in College Station. Caroline Bellows cleared a personal-best height of 3.88 meters (12-8 ¾) to win the women's pole vault, while Gary Haasbroek leaped to a runner-up mark of 7.24m (23-9) in the long jump to headline action for the men.
 
The Roadrunners collected five gold medals at last year's J. Fred Duckett Twilight, including wins by Luca Chatham in the men's 800m and Patrick Prince in the men's 110m hurdles.
 
UTSA enters Saturday's meet with several of the top marks in Conference USA.
 
For the women, Danielle Spence owns the top triple jump in the league with a 13.36m (43-10) measurement — a mark that ranks eighth in the NCAA — from her winning performance at the Roadrunner Invitational last month. Orla Brothers leads the league in the 400m hurdles with her 1:00.12 clocking at the UTSA Invitational in March, while Gabriyella Torres posted the top heptathlon point total on the circuit with 5,001 points at the Roadrunner Invitational. Bellows stands second in the pole vault with her 3.88m (12-8 ¾) winning clearance at last week's Texas A&M Invitational and Olivia Esemena has clocked the third-fastest time in the 100m (11.65).
 
On the men's side, Andrew Pirog continues to lead the conference in the 400m hurdles with his 52.51 clocking from the Roadrunner Invitational. Patrick Prince owns the second-fastest time in the 110m hurdles with a 13.98 at the UTSA Invitational in March, while Jake McDaniel has the second-best decathlon total in C-USA with his 6,648 points posted in winning the Roadrunner Invitational. Andre Douglas boasts the third-best triple jump (15.44m/50-8) in the league and Vincent Perez ranks third in the hammer throw (59.46m/195-1).
