Bobcats outlast Roadrunners in the seventh

SAN ANTONIO – With six runs in the seventh, the Bobcats outran the Roadrunners to take an 8-6 victory Wednesday evening,
 
UTSA falls to 17-22 on the season, while Texas State improves to 21-17.
 
To open the game, McDowell was walked, then advanced to second on a wild pitch, but was thrown out at third. Oltmann singled to the second, then stole second to reach scoring position. MacKay hit a double up the middle, scoring Oltmann to put the Bobcats on the board.
 
In the bottom of the third, Kylea Nix was walked with one out. Celeste Loughman hit a single that fell between the outfielders in right field. Bailee Baldwin hit a three-run homer to right field, scoring Nix and Loughman. The Roadrunners led 3-1 after the third.
 
Rogers hit a solo homer to left center field in the top of the fourth to close the gap to one. The Roadrunners led 3-2 after the fourth.
 
Nix hit a single down the right field line in the bottom of the fifth. Brycen Blinco hit a sac bunt to move Boring (pinch runner) to second. Loughman reached on an error as Boring scored. A fly out and a strikeout ended the inning.
 
In the top of the seventh, the Bobcats opened with two singles from Cranek and McDowell. Carter reached on an error as runners advanced and Cranek scored. Oltmann was walked and MacKay singled up the middle, scoring McDowell. Bell hit a sac fly to center field as Carter scored. Rogers was walked and Valdez followed with a double to left center as Sannem (pinch runner) and Oltmann reached home. Cline hit a ground out as Rogers scored. Texas State led 8-4 going to the bottom of the frame.
 
Blinco reached first on an error and Loughman followed with a double down the right field line as Blinco scored. Baldwin was walked and Madison Washington hit a sac fly, scoring Loughman. With two outs, Riley Grunberg doubled to center field as Bailee advanced to third. A fly out ended the game.
 
UTSA posted seven hits, while Texas State had 11.
 
The Roadrunners return to action April 17 at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
