SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball teams falls to Louisiana Tech, 11-2 in game three of the series Sunday afternoon.
UTSA falls to 16-18 (6-6 C-USA), while LA Tech improves to 26-9 (7-2 C-USA) on the season.
The Lady Techsters opened the game with back-to-back home runs. Kimmie Atienza hit a solo homer to center field and Morgan Turkoly followed with a home run to right center. With two outs on the board, Sloane Stewartson hit a home run to left field.
Madison Washington put the Roadrunners on the board with a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the second. LA Tech led 4-1 after the second.
Marena Estell pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the third. With two outs, Celeste Loughman singled to right field, then advanced to second on a passed ball. Bailee Baldwin hit a single to right field, but then was tagged out when reaching second, while Lougman scored.
In the top of the fourth, Lindsay Edwards singled to right field and Bayli Simon hit a two-run homer to center field. Atienza was walked with two outs on the board. She then stole second. Turkoly was walked, then runners advanced on a throwing error and Atienza scored. The Lady Techsters led 7-2 after the fourth.
Stewartson opened the fifth reaching on an error, then advanced to second on the error. Edwards hit a double down the left field line. Simon singled but was out at second as Edwards and Calapp (pinch runner) scored. A ground out and a foul out ended the inning.
LA Tech added two more runs in the sixth. Turkoly reached first on an error, then stole second. Calapp was walked, then stole second as well. Edwards singled to right center and Calapp and Edwards scored. A 1-2-3 inning for the Roadrunners ended the game.
The Lady Techsters had nine hits, while the Roadrunners had three hits and three errors.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Incarnate Word for a mid-week game. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
