LA Tech dominates doubleheader

SAN ANTONIO – Louisiana Tech dominated the doubleheader on Saturday, scoring a total of 26 runs.
 
The Lady Techsters won the first game, 13-1 and the second 13-7.
 
UTSA falls to 16-17 (6-5 C-USA), while LA Tech improves to 25-9 (6-2 C-USA).
 
Game 1
In game one, Louisiana Tech had 17 hits and 13 runs to end the game early in a run rule.
 
The Lady Techsters were on the board early with four runs in the first. Morgan Turkoly reached first on a walk and Jazlyn Crowder hit a bunt single as Turkoly advanced. Zoe Hicks was walked and Sloane Stewartson doubled to left field as Crowder and Turkoly scored. A single from Lin Edwards advanced runners as Hicks scored. Bayli Simon reached on an error as Robicheax (pinch runner) scored. In the bottom of the frame. Bailee Baldwin singled to center field and Kindell Brooks followed with a double to left field as Baldwin scored. LA Tech led 4-1 after the first.
 
LA Tech scored two more runs in the second. Crowder singled to left, then stole second. Hicks singled to shortstop as Crowder scored. Lin Edwards singled up the middle. Hicks and Edwards then advanced bases on a passed ball to reach scoring position. Simon singled up the middle as Hick scored and Edwards was tagged out running home. The Lady Techsters led 6-1 after the second.
 
In the top of the third, three batters reached home from two walks and a hit by pitch. With bases loaded, Hicks was walked as Anderson reached home.
 
LA Tech added six more runs in the fourth, with three singles, a bunt, two errors and a home run pushed the Lady Techsters to a 12-run advantage and end the game.
 
Game 2
The Roadrunners tied the game twice, but eight runs in the seventh gave LA Tech the second win of the day.
 
The Lady Techsters opened the game with three singles a run to take a 1-0 lead.
 
In the top of the fourth, Hicks singled to left center and Stewartson followed with a single to left field, then advanced to second on the throw back in. Edwards singled to right field and Hicks scored.
 
Louisiana Tech added two more in the top of the fifth. Kim Atienza hit a bunt single and Turkoly singled as Atienza was tagged out at third. Crowder hit a two-run homer to right center to score Turkoly. The Lady Techsters led 4-0 after the top of the frame. Kindell Brooks opened the bottom of the inning with a single to left center. Madison Washington was walked, then runners advanced on a wild pitch. Riley Grunberg hit a three-run homer to left field as the Roadrunners trailed 3-4. Victoria Villarreal followed with a solo home run to center field to tie the game at four. Kaitlin Lopez hit a double to left field then advanced to third on a wild pitch. A foul out, strikeout and ground out ended the inning.
 
Edwards hit a solo home run in the sixth to take back the lead, 5-4. Madison Washington opened the inning for the Roadrunners with a solo homer to right field to tie up the game once again.
 
In the top of the seventh, the Lady Techsters had eight more runs to capture the win. LA Tech garnered the eight runs on six hits and two errors. In the bottom of the frame, Loughman hit a double down the left field line and Baldwin followed with a two-run homer to left field, scoring Loughman.
 
The Lady Techsters recorded 17 hits, while the Roadrunners had seven runs on 10 hits and three errors.
 
UTSA and Louisiana Tech finish the three-game series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
