Slater Foust stars as UTSA tops Bradley

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Slater Foust dominated on the mound, pushing UTSA past Bradley 7-2 Sunday at Roadrunner Field.

Foust, a junior from Georgetown, Texas, shut down the Braves' offense, improving the Roadrunners to 6-5, while Bradley dropped to 6-3.

Over seven-plus strong innings of work, Foust allowed two runs on four hits and three walks, while striking out four in the longest outing of his career. He retired nine batters in a row and the visitors from Peoria, Illinois failed to plate a run through the first seven frames.

In the eighth, Bradley broke through with two runs, trimming the deficit to 4-2. The Braves capitalized on three free passes and added two singles, as the first five batters reached safely.

Hunter Mason picked up his first career safe, relieving Foust with two on and no outs in the eighth. Mason allowed two singles, two walks and recorded four of the six outs by strikeout.

The Roadrunners staked Foust to a 4-0 advantage with solo runs in the first and fifth innings, before plating two in the sixth. After Bradley pushed across two in the top of the eighth, UTSA countered with three in the home half of the inning.

Jonathan Tapia and Dylan Rock extended their on-base streaks to 12 games each when they were both hit by a pitch in the first inning. Griffin Paxton deposited a two-out single into right, scoring Jonathan Tapia, giving the Roadrunners the early 1-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the fifth, Tapia's sacrifice fly plated Taylor Barber, who reached on a miscue by the defense to open the frame.

Rock extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a leadoff single in the bottom of the six. After a four-pitch walk to Brian Arias, the duo executed a double steal on the first pitch to the next batter, moving both runners into scoring position. They advanced 90 feet on a balk, plating Rock and Nick Thornquist drove in Arias, extending the margin to 4-0.

After the Braves cut the margin in half at 4-2, UTSA responded with three runs in the bottom of the eighth with three hits, capitalizing on the third miscue of the game by the visitor's defense and a wild pitch.

Joshua Lamb went 2-for-4 at the dish for the Roadrunners and six other players added a hit.

Dan Bolt had a 2-for-4 day at the plate and four other Braves registered a hit. Sam Lund started on the mound and was saddled with the loss. He worked the first 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on three hits, one walk and hitting two batters, while fanning three.

UTSA concludes the four-game homestand with a 6 p.m. first pitch against Texas State Tuesday.
