HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Roadrunners claimed game three of the series at Marshall from two doubles and a single to take a 4-2 victory.
UTSA improves to 15-14 overall and 6-3 in C-USA action, while Marshall falls to 21-9 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
Through the first two innings, both pitchers had a 1-2-3 inning.
Both teams left one on in the third and fourth.
The Roadrunners were on the board first in the top of the fifth. Kaitlin Lopez was walked and Brycen Blinco hit a double to center field as Lopez scored. Blinco was thrown out as she slid into third. UTSA led 1-0 after the fifth.
In the top of the sixth, Kindell Brooks reached first after getting hit by a pitch. Riley Grunberg hit a single up the middle as Brooks advanced to second. Madison Washington hit single to left center as Grunberg advanced to third and Brooks scored on an error in left field as the Roadrunners led 2-0 after the sixth.
Lopez opened the top of the seventh being hit by a pitch. Blinco was walked as runners advanced. Celeste Loughman reached on a fielder's choice as Lopez was tagged out at third. Bailee Baldwin increased the lead with a double to right field as Blinco and Loughman scored.
In the bottom of the seventh, Daiss reached on an error and Burch was walked. Ellis followed with another walk as runners advanced. Brown hit a sac fly to center field as Daiss scored. Ellis advanced to second on a wild pitch and Burch scored to bring the score to 4-2. Two ground outs ended the game.
Clarissa Hernandez garnered the win to improve to 6-3 on the season, while Marena Estell picked up her first career save. Hernandez pitched 6.0 innings, allowing just one hit and two runs with six strikeouts.
The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday when they host BYU for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
