Baseball hosts Bradley in three-game set

SAN ANTONIO -- Coming off its first win over Texas in 12 years, UTSA baseball will return home to host Bradley in a three-game series, with first pitch in the series lidlifter slated for 6 p.m. on Friday at Roadrunner Field. The series will resume on Saturday at 2 p.m. and conclude on Sunday at 11 a.m., with all three games slated for stream on CUSA TV.  
 
UTSA (6-3) has won six of its last seven games after opening the year 0-2 in a series opening weekend vs. McNeese State. UTSA posted a 10-7 win at No. 19 Texas on Wednesday, which marked its first win over UT since 2008. The Roadrunners allowed three-run UT innings in the first and third before exploding for an eight-run fifth in the win. 
 
The Roadrunners will turn to senior righty Karan Patel (0-2, 4.09 ERA) on Friday vs. Bradley senior righty Mitch Janssen. Patel has worked 11 innings in 2019, allowing 18 hits and five walks, striking out 13. In his career, Patel is 7-13 with a 5.17 ERA in 169 innings, allowing 165 hits and 110 walks, striking out 159. 
 
Janssen has appeared in 41 games with 25 starts in his career, working 124.1 innings, allowing 113 hits and 82 walks, striking out 109. He went 5-3 with a .93 EA in 16 starts in 2018. Sophomore lefty Brooks Gosswin (0-1, 4.15 ERA) gets the start for Bradley on Saturday. Gosswin has appeared in 20 games with three starts in his career, posting a 2-3 record and a 3.56 ERA in 43 innings, allowing 43 hits and walking 23, striking out 31. Senior right-hander Sam Lund (0-1, 14.40 ERA) will start on Sunday for Bradley. Lunch went 6-4 with a 5.43 ERA in 2018 in 13 starts, allowing 27 walks and 63 hits in 58 innings, striking out 40. 
 
While the Roadrunners have yet to determine a starting pitcher for the final two games of the series, UTSA has used Palmer Wenzel (2-0, 1.32 ERA) in two starts, Bradley Griggs (1-1, 9.95 ERA), Slater Foust (1-0, 0.00 ERA) and Hunter Mason (1-0, 3.86 ERA) in weekend starting roles in 2019. 
 
UTSA has hit .309 as a team in 2019, with 67 runs scored in nine games, belting 26 doubles and three homers, stealing nine bases. On the mound, the Roadrunners have a 4.67 team ERA in 79 innings, walking 33 and striking out 72. 
 
Junior catcher Nick Thornquist leads the team with a .406 average through nine games, with four doubles, one triple, one homer and eight RBI. Joshua Lamb and Griffin Paxton pace the team with nine RBI, with Paxton hitting .343 with four doubles and one triple. Lamb has hit .241 with a double and triple. Bryan Sturges owns a .393 average, with Dylan Rock hitting .379. Taylor Barber has hit .318 with four doubles, with Bryan Arias batting .289 with four doubles and five RBI. 
 
In relief, Cameron Carver (0-0, 1.80 ERA) has two saves in his three outings, each a finished game. Connor Heffron (0-0, 6.23 ERA) and Jake Harrison (0-0, 14.54 ERA) have also each appeared in four games out of the bullpen.
