HAMMOND, La. - The Roadrunners scored early in to defeat Missouri State, 2-1 Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Lion Classic.
UTSA improves to 4-6 on the season while Missouri State falls to 6-4.
The Roadrunners were on the board early with a hit in the first. Kindell Brooks reached first on a fielding error, advancing runners as Bailee Baldwin scored.
Kaitlin Lopez hit a single to the left side. She advanced to third off ground outs until Celeste Loughman hit a single up the middle as Lopez scored. The Roadrunners led 2-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Bears had four hits and a run. Madison Hunsaker singled to second, Rachel Weber and Morgan Greenlee singled to the left side and Alex Boze singled up the middle as runners advanced and Ashton Thomas reached home. UTSA led 2-1 going to the fifth.
Both teams had a hit in the fifth, but left runners on base after defensive plays.
In the seventh, Madison Washington reached second on a fielding error and Brycen Blinco singled to third, but the Roadrunners were tagged out at home.
UTSA returns to the field on Friday at the Cardinal Classic. The Roadrunners will face Maine and Rhode Island with the first pitch at 12 p.m.
