UTSA to continue indoor campaign at Houston Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's and women's track & field teams will continue their indoor campaign this Friday-Saturday, Jan. 25-26, at the Houston Invitational at Yeoman Fieldhouse.
 
The Roadrunners will make their second straight trip to the Bayou City to compete against Houston, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, Texas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Wesleyan, UIW, USF and UTRGV in the two-day meet. Live results will be available at http://www.flashresultstexas.com/2019/uhindoorinv19/.
 
UTSA is coming off a nine-win showing at the FasTrak Invitational last Saturday in Houston. The men claimed five gold medals and the women collected four in the second meet of the indoor season.
 
Andre Douglas won his second straight triple jump competition with a personal-best mark of 51-1 ¾, which moved the sophomore from Jamaica into second place on UTSA's all-time performers list.
 
Gary Haasbroek leaped into the No. 2 spot on the program's long jump performers list with a winning mark of 24-9 ¼. The freshman from Australia is slated to compete in his first heptathlon of the year this weekend with his sights set on the Australian national record of 4,875 points.
 
Meanwhile, senior Vincent Perez is now third on the Roadrunners' weight throw list after a winning heave of 61-3.
 
On the track, senior All-American Patrick Prince raced to gold in the 60-meter hurdles with a 7.84 clocking and fellow senior Desmond Jefferson crossed first in the 400m with a 48.98.
 
Orla Brothers clocked a 56.47 to win the women's 400m and the freshman from England anchored the 4x400m relay team to gold, joining Darionne Gibson, Jamiah Jackson and Sierra Andres for a 3:51.56 effort.
 
Senior Gabriyella Torres claimed top honors in the long jump with an 18-10 ¾ measurement and senior Charlette Janicek won the 3,000m in 11:12.99.
 
The Roadrunners captured three event titles at last year's Houston Invitational. Luca Chatham won the men's mile in 4:15.92 and anchored the distance medley relay team — along with Zack Kovar, Skye Knight and Caleb Devereaux — to gold in 10:31.89, while Ty Anderson cleared 6-8 ¾ to claim victory in the high jump.
