SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team fell to Middle Tennessee, 72-52 Thursday evening at the Convocation Center.
The Roadrunners (6-10, 1-3) shot 37.7 percent from the field as the Blue Raiders (14-4, 5-0) shot 43.6 percent, staying consistent throughout the game.
In the first quarter, the Roadrunners forced six turnovers and posted four steals as Marie Benson led the team with six points. Middle Tennessee was up by seven with just over three minutes remaining, but the Roadrunners closed in and trailed 15-11 after the first.
A steal by Timea Toth followed by a layup from Karrington Donald opened the second quarter. The Blue Raiders went on a 6-0 run to increase the lead to 10. UTSA put up 14 points and shot 41.7 percent from the field, but it wasn't enough as MT remained in the lead with a score of 34-25 at the half.
In the first four minutes of the third quarter, only six points had been scored between both teams. The Roadrunners and the Blue Raiders each scored 18 points in the quarter as UTSA trailed by nine, 52-43, going to the fourth.
Middle Tennessee took off in the fourth, scoring 20 points and posting 14 rebounds, while shooting 40 percent from the field.
Marie Benson posted her fourth-consecutive double-double (14 points and 13 rebounds), increasing her season total to 10.
The Roadrunners return to the court on Saturday when they host UAB at 1 p.m.
