Roadrunners edge Wildcats 66-59 Sunday afternoon.

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team defeated Weber State 66-59 in a nail biter Sunday afternoon on the final day of the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic.
 
UTSA (3-4) shot 40.7 percent from the field, while the Wildcats (2-3) shot 34.9 percent.
 
The Roadrunners shot 38.9 percent from the field in the first quarter to take a 17-10 lead going to the second. Ryann Stearns and Tija Hawkins each had four points to lead the team.
 
The Wildcats scored 18 points in the second quarter to close the gap to two at the half. Stearns scored another four points to help keep the lead. Timea Toth, Marie Benson, Karrington Donald and Tija Hawkins all scored points as well.
 
Stearns hit her third double-digit scoring game in the third quarter as the Roadrunners trailed by one going to the fourth.
 
UTSA scored 26 points in the fourth to ultimately garner the victory. The Wildcats and the Roadrunners were close the whole quarter until free throws from Marie Benson at the 1:12 mark increased the lead to 60-58. Six more free throws by UTSA brought the lead to seven.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday when they face No. 10 Texas at 11 a.m. in Austin.
