Pirates defeat Roadrunners in Seton Hall Tip-off

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The UTSA women's basketball team outscored the Pirates in the second half, but it wasn't enough as it dropped an 84-53 decision to Seton Hall Sunday afternoon.
 
The Roadrunners (1-2) tallied 19 offensive rebounds and 12 assists, but the Pirates (3-0) managed to grab 28 defensive rebounds, which led to the victory.
 
Marie Benson led the team with 13 points, followed by Tija Hawkins with 11. Both Marie Benson and Kourtney Kekec captured four rebounds on the day and Timea Toth had four assists.
 
UTSA scored 12 points in the paint in the first half as they trailed 55-23 at halftime.
 
In the third quarter, the Roadrunners scored only 10 points, but stepped it up towards the last few minutes leading to the fourth. 
 
UTSA outscored Seton Hall 20-10 in the fourth and shot 50 percent from the field as well as 57.1 percent at the free throw line. Ryann Stearns made seven of her none points in the fourth, while Timea Toth tallied three assists and two rebounds.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday when they host UTRGV at 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
