Roadrunners compete at Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. –
The UTSA cross country programs continued their 2018 campaigns on Saturday at the 44th annual Stanford Invitational, contested at the Stanford Golf Course. The Roadrunner women were led by Olivia Flores in the 6k event, while Martin Luevano paced the men in the 8k.
 

The UTSA women totaled 494 points to place 15th in the 19-team field, finishing ahead of LA Harbor, Fresno Pacific, Mt. SAC and Cal State Monterey Bay.
 
Flores, a junior, paced the squad with a 23:22.80 to place 98th overall. Junior Colleen Gilbert stopped the clock at 24:07.70 to place 123rd. Briana Gonzalez, a freshman, closely followed Gilbert across the finish line as she placed 125th with a time of 24:11.10. Marissa Martinez and Gabby Gonzales rounded out the Roadrunners' scorers, placing 130th and 133rd, respectively. Martinez, a freshman, ran a 24:29.80, while Gonzalez, a junior, clocked a 24:41.70.
 
Senior Charlette Janicek placed 143rd with a 25:15.70 and freshman Abby Balli logged a 26:15.50 to place 153rd and round out the Roadrunners' contingent.
 
The Roadrunner men placed 13th in the field of 18 teams, totaling 430 points, finishing ahead of Fresno Pacific, George Fox, San Bernardino Valley, LA Harbor and Cal State Monterey Bay.
 
Luevano, a junior, finished the event in 26:40.20 to place 102nd overall. He was followed by Peter Sepulveda, also a junior, with a 26:50.60 to place 108th overall and freshman Jake Smith with a time of 27:02.80 in 118th. Senior Luca Chatham, sophomore Matthew David and sophomore Josh Rodriguez crossed the line moments after one another as Chatham ran a 27:14.50 to place 128th, David a 27:15.40 to place 130th and Rodriguez a 27:16.60 to place 131st. Zack Kovar, also a sophomore, clocked a 29:01.10 to cross the finish line 173rd.
