UTSA cross country starts season Friday at Aggie Opener

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's and women's cross country teams open the 2018 campaign Friday, Aug. 31 at the Texas A&M-hosted Aggie Opener in College Station.
 
The event
The annual Aggie Opener will be contested at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course with the women competing in a 4,100-meter race at 6:45 p.m., followed by the men running a 6,000-meter distance at 7:15 p.m.
 
The competition
UTSA joins Houston, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M, and UTRGV as event entrants.
 
Representing the Roadrunners
Sixteen men and 13 women will represent UTSA at the meet. The men's lineup features seniors Luca Chatham and Hunter Hawkins. Joining the seasoned duo are juniors Marcus Guajardo, Skye Knight, Martin Luevano, Mason Riley and Peter Sepulveda; sophomores Omar Bekdache, Christian Castellanos, Matthew David, Zack Kovar, and Josh Rodriquez. Making their UTSA debut will be freshmen JD Corona, Garrett Fowler, Mason Lischka and Jake Smith.
 
The Roadrunner women's lineup in made up of two seniors, five juniors and six freshmen. Colleen Gilbert and Charlette Janicek are each in their senior year of collegiate completion, while Sarah Estrada, Olivia Flores, Gabby Gonzales, Rian Rodriguez and Stephanie Sauceda are entering their junior campaigns. Freshman newcomers Abbygail Balli, Abigail Behring, Brianna Gonzalez, Marissa Martinez, Chloe Munoz and Sydney Sizemore will line up for their first event as collegians.
