Lozano posts top-10 finish at Trans-Miss Amateur Championship

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former UTSA standout Zander Lozano tied for eighth place at the 115th Trans-Miss Amateur Championship, which wrapped up Friday at Brookside Golf & Country Club (par 72/7,128 yards).

Lozano, who concluded his collegiate career in May, fired an 11-under-par 277 to place in the top 10 out of 144 players in the oldest non-USGA national amateur tournament in the country. He finished only four shots behind individual medalist Springer Hayden's 273.

Lozano, who hails from Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, opened the 72-hole event with a 5-under 67 on Tuesday. He wrote down six birdies, including four on the front nine, on the opening day.

The first-team All-Conference USA performer posted a 71 on Wednesday on the strength of three birdies before registering his second sub-70 round of the tournament with a 69 on Thursday that featured five birdies, four on the back nine.

Lozano carded a 70 that was highlighted by birdies on six holes, including four during a five-hole stretch on the back, to close out the event.

Lozano, a two-time NCAA Regional qualifier for the Roadrunners, posted 20 birdies for the tournament, the sixth-highest total in the field.
