Lozano concludes UTSA career on Wednesday at NCAA Bryan Regional

BRYAN — Zander Lozano concluded his UTSA career on Wednesday with a tie for 55th place at the NCAA Bryan Regional.

Lozano, a first-team All-Conference USA performer, posted a 77 on the 7,121-yard, par 72 Traditions Club layout on the final day of the 54-hole event. The Fair Oaks Ranch native wrote down three birdies, including on Nos. 8 and 14 for the second straight day, and he finished the event with seven.

Making his second straight NCAA Regional appearance, Lozano turned in a 226 (76-73-77) in his final tournament as a Roadrunner to tie with Reese McFarlane of UNC Wilmington for 55th.

"Some good things happened and some not-so-good things happened today," head coach John Knauer said, "but in the end Zander played with composure and heart and represented UTSA at the highest level as he always does. It was fun to go out in a final round knowing he already has his degree in hand and could play stress free and enjoy the day."

Lozano finished his UTSA career with a three wins, a 72.55 stroke average, a school-record 25 sub-70 rounds and 15 top-10 finishes, and he is the only Roadrunner to advance to two NCAA Regionals.

"It's hard to put into words what Zander has meant to our program," Knauer said. "He has changed the face of UTSA Golf, not only with his play but with everything else he does as a student-athlete. He has helped instill a higher standard of work ethic and pride on and off the course that will help this program continue to grow in the future."

Top seed and No. 2-ranked Texas A&M won the team title with an 837, while Clemson (846), Baylor (857), UCLA (866) and Kentucky (874) earned the other four automatic qualifying spots in the NCAA Championships on May 25-30 in Stillwater, Okla.

Braden Thornberry of Ole Miss claimed the individual berth to the NCAA Championships by finishing fourth with a 9-under-par 207 (69-68-70).
