HOUSTON – Junior Patrick Prince successfully defended his 110m hurdles championship and 12 additional Roadrunners claimed individual event medals to lead UTSA's efforts on the fourth and final day of the 2018 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, contested at Rice University's Wendel D. Ley Stadium.
In all, UTSA student-athletes captured 15 event medals during the championships; including one gold, eight silvers and six bronze.
The Roadrunners finished the championships in third place on the men's side with 109 total points and in sixth on the women's leaderboard with 61 markers. Charlotte (149 points) won the men's championship, while Southern Miss (131 points) captured the women's title.

Throws
Senior N'Dia Warren-Jacques claimed UTSA's third podium finish of the championships as she placed third in the women's shot put with a heave of 14.90. The throw, which came on her third attempt of the day, earned six team points. Maia Campbell also scored in the event as she finished eighth for one point with a throw of 14.05m. Lacee Barnes placed 10th in the event with a distance of 13.77m, Cynthia Gonzales 17th with a PR of 12.72m and Brenttany Birdow 18th with a PR of 12.36m.
Adrian Riley picked up a point for the Birds as he placed eighth in the javelin with a distance of 54.89m. Jake McDaniel came home 10th in the event with a hurl of 51.51m.
Kelsey Benoit and Derek Fenton went two-three in the men's shot put to earn the silver and bronze medals. Benoit, a senior, picked up eight points with a shot of 17.44m and Fenton hurled the implement 17.03m to pick up six points. Mike Zuniga rounded out the UTSA trio with a 13th-place finish after a heave of 14.87m.
Jumps
The UTSA women's second medal of the day belonged to freshman Danielle Spence in the triple jump. Spence leapt a personal-best 12.93m on her second attempt of the day to earn the silver medal and claim eight team points. Ariel Watson, also a frosh, placed fifth in the event with a PR of 12.42m to pick up four points for the Roadrunners.
In the men's triple jump freshman Andre Douglas won his first medal as a collegian with a bronze-medal and personal-best effort of 15.56m. The leap was achieved on his second time down the runway and earned the Roadrunners six team points. Jahkwan Blackley narrowly missed a PR as he finished 14th in the event with a best distance of 14.12m.
In the women's pole vault, Carolina Bellows cleared 3.66m to place ninth and Britton Chapman 3.36m to place 15th.
Ty Anderson and Davante Edwards both earned second and silver medals in the men's high jump with clearances of 2.12m. Anderson and Edwards charted identical paths to the 2.12m height and both went over the bar on their second attempt. Quillan Haughton placed fifth with a height of 2.09m, Jake McDaniel (9th), Adrian Riley (11th) and Chadler Iturraga (13th) each cleared 1.94m at different stages of the event.
Sprints
Vasha Sheriff, a junior, won the bronze in the men's 400m dash with a time of 46.21, which also earned six points toward UTSA's team total. Jennifer Arinze ran a 54.71 in the women's event to place fifth and earn four team points.
Hurdles
Patrick Prince won UTSA's only individual title of the championships as he defended his 110m hurdles title. The junior clocked a blazing 13.75 to win the gold and earn 10 team points. The time was a personal-best, ranks second on the UTSA all-time list and 20th in the NCAA this season. Justin Gerbrecht placed eighth with a time of 14.75, which was good for a team tally.
Freshman Jamiah Jackson took the silver medal in the women's 100m hurdles, stopping the clock at 13.96. The effort earned eight team points for the Roadrunners.
Andrew Pirog collected silver in the men's 400m hurdles with a personal-best time of 51.58, while Justin Gerbrecht stopped the watch in 53.62 to placed sixth. The pair claimed eight and three team points, respectively.
In the women's 400m hurdles final, Christy Gilbert won four team points with her fifth-place finish in 1:01.10 and Rachael Grossman took a single point as she placed eighth with a time of 1:04.59.
Relays
The UTSA grouping of Byron Taylor, Patrick Prince, Jayden Bunting and Kaleb Campbell placed fifth in the men's 4x100m relay with a time of 40.62. In the women's event Danielle Spence, Victoria Rausch, Sierra Andres and Jennifer Arinze ran a 46.52 to place seventh. The quartets collected four and two team points, respectively.
Setting the school record in the men's 4x400m relay was the foursome of Luca Chatham, Austin Crocker, Caleb Devereaux and Desmond Jefferson as the team completed the four circuits in 3:06.69 to earn the championship's silver medal. The time bested the UTSA record by nearly eight tenths of a second and was the fastest time ran by a UTSA group in three years.
Closing the championships was the women's 4x400m relay, which saw the UTSA team of Darionne Gibson, Jennifer Arinze, Sierra Andres and Jamiah Jackson earn bronze with a time of 3:41.27.
Mid-distance
Luca Chatham crossed the line third in the men's 800m in a personal-best 1:49.91 to claim the bronze. The time improved the junior's standing on the UTSA all-time 800m list to third.
Distance
John von Dohlen ran a 16:17.33 in the men's 5,000m to place 28th, while Gabby Gonzales placed 25th in the women's event with a time of 18:51.03.
Up next
The Roadrunners now await NCAA West Preliminary Round bids. The West Preliminaries are scheduled for May 24-26 in Sacramento, Calif.
