NORFOLK, Va. – UTSA turned back on the offensive firepower to win Sunday's series finale at Old Dominion by an 11-3 score.
The Roadrunners (28-21, 14-12 C-USA) posted 16 hits while scoring runs in six of the nine innings en route to clinch the Conference USA series.
Bryan Arias led off the the game with a solo home run that set the tone for UTSA.
The Roadrunners plated two more in the second on a double by Garrett Moon and single from Joshua Lamb.
Dylan Rock added a run-scoring hit in the third to give the Birds a 4-0 advantage.
Ryan Stacy picked up an RBI single in the fifth, while Lamb and Arias both drove in runs in the sixth to push UTSA out to a 7-2 lead.
The Roadrunners stretched their advantage with four runs in the ninth, including one on Lamb's third RBI of the contest.
Lamb was one of seven UTSA players to record multiple hits on the day, as he was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Trent Bowles posted three knocks, including his team-leading 16th double of the campaign, and scored a pair of runs.
Chris Estrada pushed his hitting streak to a season-long 10 games after picking up two hits and driving in a run.
Chance Kirby (5-4) logged another quality start on the mound, keeping the Monarchs (15-33, 7-19 C-USA) at bay for most of his outing. The right-hander scattered seven hits, allowed two runs and struck out four in 6.1 innings. Palmer Wenzel came on to close out the game, giving up one run and striking out two in the final 2.2 stanzas.
The Roadrunners will return to San Antonio to close out the regular season with a home stand next week. UTSA will take on Abilene Christian at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday before wrapping up league play against Charlotte in a three-game set that starts Thursday night at Roadrunner Field.
