SAN ANTONIO – UTSA collected 15 hits, including a pair of two-run homers, en route to an 11-1 win over crosstown foe Incarnate Word on Tuesday night at Roadrunner Field.
The Cardinals (25-17), who suffered their fourth consecutive loss, took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Lee Thomas' RBI groundout.
The Roadrunners (22-17) answered with three runs in the bottom of the stanza, including Joshua Lamb's RBI triple that put the hosts in the lead for good.
After tacking on a fourth run in the third inning, Tony Beam pounded a two-run bomb over the wall in left-center field in the fifth.
Ryan Stacy followed in the next frame with a two-run homer of his own to the other gap.
UTSA plated a trio of runs in the eighth, thanks to run-scoring singles by Trent Bowles and Dylan Rock and an RBI groundout by Ben Brookover.
Beam finished the night 2 for 3 with three RBIs, while Bowles and Rock each tallied three hits and drove in a run.
Nathan Alexander (1-1) received his first win with the Roadrunners after allowing only one run on one hit and two walks in three innings.
Jenner Jackson (1-3) was tagged with the loss after yielding four runs on five hits in 2.1 frames.
The Roadrunners (9-8 Conference USA) will return to league action this weekend at Middle Tennessee (21-20-1, 6-11-1 C-USA). The three-game set opens at 6 p.m. Friday at Reese Smith Jr. Field in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
