SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's golf team will travel to Texarkana, Ark., for the Conference USA Men's Golf Championship, which will be held on Sunday-Wednesday, April 22-25, at Texarkana Country Club (par 72/6,969 yards).
The Roadrunners will compete against Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana Tech, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, Old Dominion, Rice, Southern Miss, UAB, UTEP and WKU.
The field will play 54 holes of stroke play on Sunday-Tuesday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. each day. The top four teams will advance to match play on Wednesday. The semifinal matches will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the final is set for approximately 12:30 p.m. Live scoring will be provided at golfstat.com.
UTSA finished seventh with a 902 at last year's C-USA Championship at Texarkana Country Club. Zander Lozano tied for 17th place with a 223 (73-74-76) and Bryce Alley was 23rd (75-75-74—224) to lead the way.
Two years ago at this event, the Birds placed fourth with an 882 to advance to the match play semifinals, where they were eliminated by UAB. Lozano tied for fourth with a 217 (72-73-72) to help UTSA to its best C-USA finish.
The Roadrunners have posted four runner-up finishes at conference championships, the last coming in 2006 in the Southland Conference. Two Roadrunners have claimed individual league titles. Magnus Dohlvik recorded a 70-72-77—219 in 1997 to win the Southland crown, while John Elizondo was the Southland's medalist in 2006 after carding a 67-71-75—213.
UTSA will carry momentum into the conference tournament after capturing the Wyoming Cowboy Classic team title with a 22-under-par 842 (281-279-282) on April 9-10 in Chandler, Ariz. Sean Meehan claimed individual medalist honors with an 11-under 205 (70-67-68) and was tabbed C-USA Men's Golfer of the week a day later. Lozano and Michael Rome finished in a tie for 11th at 4-under 212.
