Roadrunners to play three-game series at WKU

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA baseball team will take a five-game winning streak to Bowling Green, Ky., for a three-game series against WKU. The set opens at 5 p.m. (CT) Thursday. Friday's game will be played at 5 p.m. (CT), while Saturday's finale is slated to start at 11 a.m (CT) at Nick Denes Field.

The Roadrunners (12-10, 3-2 C-USA) are coming off a 6-5 victory at Houston Baptist on Tuesday. UTSA scored four runs in the eighth inning to rally from a 5-2 deficit to upend the Huskies. The Birds also swept Marshall last weekend at Roadrunner Field to move up to fourth in the Conference USA standings.

Joshua Lamb had one hit on Tuesday, extending his hitting streak to eight games. The freshman infielder leads the Roadrunners with a .316 batting average. Reigning C-USA Hitter of the Week Trent Bowles is batting .275 with seven doubles, three homers and 15 RBIs. The senior outfielder

UTSA's offensive unit is hitting .252 this spring and averaging 5.5 runs per game.

On the mound, the Roadrunners own a 3.54 ERA, while limiting opposing hitters to a .220 batting average.Below is a look at this weekend's starting pitching matchups:

UTSA Chance Kirby, rhp (2-2, 2.57 ERA) vs. WKU Paul Kirkpatrick, rhp (3-1, 3.09 ERA)The Hilltoppers (13-12, 3-3 C-USA) have won three consecutive contests, including a 13-9 win at Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday. Western Kentucky, which is in a five-way tie for fifth place in the league standings, won two of three at Rice last weekend.

WKU is batting .295 as a team while averaging 5.7 runs per contest. The Hilltoppers also have registered a 4.45 ERA and opponents are hitting at a .256 clip against the pitching staff this spring.

The two teams have met nine times previously. WKU holds a 6-3 advantage in the all-times series that dates back to the 2015 campaign. The Roadrunners have won two of three games in last season's series, which was played in San Antonio.
