Prince wins 110m hurdles and Hicks extends school discus record to conclude Roadrunner Invitational

SAN ANTONIO – Patrick Prince won the 110m hurdles and Mia Hicks broke her own school discus record for the second straight week as the junior duo led UTSA's efforts in the third and final day of the Roadrunner Invitational, contested at the Roadrunners' Park West Athletics Complex on Saturday.
 
Texas A&M won the both the men's and women's team titles with 168 and 178.5 points respectively. UTSA totaled 72 men's points to place sixth in the eight-team field, while the Roadrunner women placed fifth on the team leaderboard with 85 points.
 
Hicks, from Conroe, Texas, improved upon her own school record in the discus as she hurled the implement 49.86m on her sixth and final attempt of the day to place fourth in the 18-competitior field. Lacee Barnes placed seventh in the event with a throw of 47.36m on her fourth attempt of the afternoon.
 
Prince, also from Conroe, earned UTSA's second event title of the meet with his 13.95 effort in the 110m hurdles. Ricardo Ramos placed 14 in the event, halting the clock in 15.92. Jamiah Jackson, a frosh, was UTSA's top finisher in the women's 110m hurdles with a time of 13.86, while junior Victoria Rausch clocked a 14.04 to placed 10th.

 
Kelsey Benoit, a senior, led UTSA in the men's discus with a distance of 50.70m. Derek Fenton placed 13th after a 47.14 and Mike Zuniga 21st after a chuck of 39.09m.
 
Ariel Watson placed 13th in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.38m and Olivia Esemena was 16th with a best leap of 5.25m. In the men's long jump Jahkwan Blackley came home 10th with a jump of 6.84m on his second attempt of the day.
 
Danielle Spence, a freshman, placed second in the women's triple jump with a leap of 12.60m on her third time down the runway. Ariel Watson, who is also a freshman, placed fourth with a best distance of 11.96m
 
Ty Anderson, a senior, was third in the high jump with a clearance of 2.10m. Quillan Haughton was fourth in the event after a height of 2.05m followed by Davante Edwards in sixth with a 2.00m jump and Chandler Iturraga in 10th (1.90m).
 
Caroline Bellows topped 3.50m to tie for 10th in the pole vault. Alex Brock was UTSA's top male pole vaulter, clearing a personal-best of 4.55m to place 10th. Karney Linch also vaulted a PR of 4.55m, but on his second attempt at the height and was awarded 12th, while Kyle Real placed 14th with final height of 4.40m.
 
In the men's 2,000m steeplechase Peter Sepulveda crossed the line in 6:23.54 to place sixth. Emily Voss stopped the clock in 7:40.20 and Olivia Flores in 8:12.42 to place fourth and fifth, respectively, in the women's 2,000m steeplechase.
 
Kaleb Campbell, Jayden Bunting, Jahkwan Blackley and Jaren Colbert placed four in the 4x100m relay with a time of 41.03, meanwhile, the Roadrunners' women's 4x100m team of De'Stini Henderson, Jennifer Arinze, Esemena and Jamiah Jackson placed third after posting a 45.44, which ranks fourth on the UTSA all-time list.
 
Mason Riley was UTSA's top finisher in the 1,500m with a 4:13.08 to finish 14th. John von Dohlen (16th / 4:15.06), Skye Knight (17th / 4:16.17) and Luca Chatham (18th / 4:19.14) followed Riley. Lynette Amaram finished 14th in the women's 1,500m, clocking a 4:50.69. Colleen Gilbert (17th / 4:53.48), Stephanie Sauceda (20th / 4:55.24) and Sarah Estrada (26th / 5:15.57) rounded out the Roadrunner mid-distance efforts.
 
In the 400m dash Vasha Sheriff claimed bronze with a 47.31 and Jared Taylor placed 21st with a 51.35. Jennifer Arinze and Darionne Gibson scored four and fifth, respectively, in the women's 400m dash with times of 54.90 and 55.24.
 
Kaleb Campbell placed 12th in the 100m dash in 10.76 to lead four Roadrunners. Prince ran a 10.81 to place 13th, Bunting clocked a 10.95 for 15th and Edwards a 10.99 to place 16th. In the women's 100m dash Henderson clocked an 11.82, which was good for fourth, while Rausch ran a 12.36 to place 12th in the 21-competitor field.
 
Zack Kovar ran the 800m in 1:55.37 to place seventh, while Caleb Devereaux posted a 1:56.16 for eighth and Marcus Guajardo a 1:58.43 to place to 12th. Jayela Slack scored a 17th-place finish in the women's 800m with a 2:17.73 and Rian Rodriguez ran a 2:27.07.
 
The men's 400m hurdles saw Andrew Pirog run a 54.10 to place 10th, while Justin Gerbrecht (13th) clocked a 54.46, Ricardo Ramos (16th) a 55.11 and Jonathan Boozer (17th) a 55.13. Christy Gilbert was UTSA's top 400m woman hurdler, clocking a 1:02.74 to place ninth. Sierra Andres ran a 1:03. 33 to cross the line 11th, followed by Rachael Grossman in 17th with a 1:05.59.
 
Blackley ran a 21.79 in the men's 200m to finish 15th overall, while Henderson ran a 24.20 to take 14th in the women's 200m followed by Esemena in 22nd with a time of 24.82.
 
Boerne, Texas, native Martin Luevano claimed fifth in the men's 3,000m run, clocking a 9:22.73. Yulisa Abundis ran a 10:41.34 in the women's 3,000m, which was good for seventh and Gabby Gonzales placed eighth after crossing the line in 10:52.50.
 
The meet concluded with the running of the 4x400m relays. The women's team of Gibson, Arine, Andres and Jackson crossed the line in 3:41.06 to place third, while the team of Ch. Gilbert, Co. Gilbert, Sauceda and Amaram ran a 3:58.55. The men's quartet of Boozer, Devereaux, Ramos and Guajardo ran a 3:25.54 to place 11th among the 15 teams.
 
Up next
The Roadrunners will travel north along I-35 next week to Austin for the 91st annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays built by the Home Depot.
