UTSA wraps up Lone Star Invitational play on Tuesday

SAN ANTONIO — Zander Lozano registered his fifth top-10 finish of the season to lead the UTSA men's golf team to eighth place at the Lone Star Invitational, which wrapped up on Tuesday at Briggs Ranch Golf Club (par 72/7,247 yards).

Lozano fired a 1-under-par 215 to finish in a tie for eighth place, marking the 14th top 10 of his career. The senior from Fair Oaks Ranch followed a pair of even-par rounds on Monday with a 71 on Tuesday. His final 18 featured a trio of birdies, including back-to-back on the 10th and 11th holes, and the All-Conference USA performer finished the 54-hole tournament with a team-high 11 birdies.

Michael Rome tied for 24th with a 4-over 220. The freshman from Austin posted a 76 that included back-to-back birdies on Nos. 4-5 after recording a 72-72—144 on the opening day.

Jake Goodman bounced back from a 75-79—154 on Monday with a 72 on Tuesday. The senior from San Antonio Johnson High School wrote down three birdies on the front nine and ended up in a tie for 46th at 226.

Sean Meehan and Chad Sewell rounded out the UTSA lineup in 54th (72-74-83—229) and 67th (79-72-82—233), respectively.

The Roadrunners finished eighth with an 882 (291-290-301), three shots ahead of New Mexico (885) and four in front of Rice (886).

No. 11 Oklahoma successfully defended its team title with a 15-under 849 on the strength of individual medalist Brad Dalke, who fired an 8-under 208 (70-71-67). Arkansas State (866), UTEP (871), 36th-ranked Kansas (872) and New Mexico State (877) closed out the top five in the 15-team field.

A quartet of Roadrunners competed as individuals. 

Collin Clark tied for 24th with a 220. The sophomore from Mansfield followed a pair of 74s on Monday with a 72 in the final round behind birdies on a pair of par fives on the front side.

Tyler Walsh turned in his best scorecard of his first season as a Roadrunner with a 224 to tie for 41st.  After opening with a 73-78—151 on Monday, the junior from Boerne fired a 73 that was highlighted by a pair of birdies and an eagle on the par-5 fifth.

Adam House finished 77th (74-83-80—237) and Reynolds Carl was 79th (81-81-82—244).

The Roadrunners will return to action on April 9-10 when they travel to Chandler, Ariz., for the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.
