SAN ANTONIO - Sophomore Rylee Rodriguez's 14th RBI of the season ended up being UTSA's lone tally on the day as the Roadrunners fell in the series finale to North Texas, 2-1 from Roadrunner Field on Sunday. The Roadrunners are now 14-13 overall and 3-3 in Conference USA play.
To open the final game of the series, UTSA retired the Mean Green in order and was first to reach home plate in the bottom of the first inning. Leading off for the Roadrunners, a speedy Celeste Loughman got to second on an overthrown North Texas throw to first. With one out, Rodriguez shot a single deep to left-center field to plate Loughman.
After a scoreless second inning by both sides, a home run from North Texas designated hitter Sam Rae tied the game at 1-1.
The Mean Green scored their go ahead run in the top of the fifth utilizing a pair of singles and walk to work around the bases.
UTSA tried to respond in the bottom of the inning after Loughman singled up the middle, stole second and advanced to third on a North Texas fielding error. However, she would end up stranded at third.
The squads combined for three hits in the final two innings but neither team added any runs to the board.
Overall, UTSA tallied three hits as Rodriguez (first), Loughman (fifth) and freshman Victoria Villarreal (sixth) each connected on knocks. North Texas completed the game with five hits.
