UTSA moves up two spots on final day at Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. — Zander Lozano fired a 2-under-par 70 to help the UTSA men's golf team move up two spots and into a tie for ninth place at the Louisiana Classics, which wrapped up on Tuesday at Oakbourne Country Club (par 72/6,866 yards).

The Roadrunners entered the final round in 11th but carded a 3-over 291 to move into a deadlock with Toledo for ninth at 8-over 872, two shots ahead of host Louisiana and Conference USA foe Rice.

Lozano wrote down four birdies en route to his 70, which propelled him 18 spots up the individual leaderboard. The senior from Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, finished in a tie for 21st at 1-under 215, the fifth time he has finished a tournament with a red number this season. He opened the 54-hole event with a 73 on Monday morning and then turned in an even-par 72 in the afternoon.

Jake Goodman and Michael Rome both settled into a tie for 40th at 3-over 219. Goodman posted a 73 that was keyed by five birdies on Tuesday after opening with a 71-75—146 on Monday. Rome registered his second straight 75 after opening with a 69 on Monday.

Chad Sewell and Adam House rounded out the UTSA lineup in ties for 52nd (74-72-75—221) and 67th (74-78-73—225), respectively.

Competing as an individual, Collin Clark finished 73rd (73-78-76—227).

No. 3 Texas A&M claimed the team title with a 29-under 835 behind individual medalist Dan Erickson's 206 (69-69-68). No 11 Illinois was second (843), followed by No. 28 Kent State (853), McNeese State (853) and No. 26 Louisville (859) in the top five.

The Roadrunners will return to the course on March 9-10 at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas.
