SAN ANTONIO – Powered by an offense that scored 10 runs in five innings, the UTSA softball team (6-2) closed its annual UTSA Tournament with a 10-1 victory over Prairie View A&M on Sunday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.
Junior Bailee Baldwin and sophomores Celeste Loughman and Rylee Rodriguez were the offensive stars of the day as they each went 2-for-2 with home runs in the contest. Overall, UTSA saw 10 base hits in 24 at-bats. In the circle, freshman Michelle Iparraguirre picked up her first collegiate win. The rookie finished the game with one strike and two walks over 5.0 innings pitched.
Game Notes – UTSA 10, Prairie View A&M 1 (Five Innings)
- The Roadrunners scored early and often, pushing two runs across the first inning, before adding three in the second, one in the fourth and four in the fifth.
- Loughman had a big day at the plate, dishing out a grand slam to end the game. With two outs and bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, the sophomore hammered a home run over the right center field fence to secure the UTSA win.
- In the bottom of the first inning, Baldwin collected UTSA's first two runs with her fifth home run of the season. Overall, the junior dished out three home runs against PVAMU this weekend.
- With two runners on base, Rodriguez claimed her first home run of the season in the bottom of the second.
- All but one UTSA starter recorded a hit in the triumph, with six scoring at least one run and two driving in multiple runs.
- Two weekends into the season, UTSA stands at 6-2, its best start since 2015 when the Roadrunners went 7-3 to start the season.
