CORPUS CHRISTI – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi rallied from a 2-1 deficit to overcome UTSA, 4-3, on Saturday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners (2-5) won the doubles point and tallied a pair of singles matchups, but it was not enough as the Islanders (5-1) picked up all four their points in singles action and clinched their fifth consecutive victory.
Since making a lineup switch in doubles play, UTSA has gone unbeaten.
Igor Cantanhede and Joao Ceolin teamed up for a 6-3 win at the second position, while Kai Breitbach and Gabriel Bugiga earned a 6-4 triumph at No. 3 doubles. Both teams improved to 2-0 on the year.
Meanwhile, Ceolin and Gabriel Bugiga both won their singles matchups.
Ceolin, who has won back-to-back matches, tallied a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles against Thomas Rodrigues Lopes. Bugiga gained his first singles win of the season after netting a 7-6, 7-6 victory over Okkie Kellerman at the fifth position.

"We had a great start to the match. We had a really great start in doubles, which is a good thing to see. It looked like we were ready to compete, but we had a sloppy start to singles.
"We have a team of all freshmen and sophomores. We were not able to capitalize on a good start even though we did battle all the way to the end. It was another chance to gain experience and get better.
"I'm looking forward to the match tomorrow with Utah State and watching this team grow every step of the way."
UP NEXT
UTSA return to San Antonio and is scheduled to host Utah State on Sunday, Feb. 11. The match has been pushed back due to the forecast of cold weather and the location has been moved in order to play indoors. The two teams will square off at 1 p.m. at John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels.FINAL RESULTS
