WHITE OUT: Roadrunners host UTEP Saturday evening

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA men's basketball hosts in-state rival UTEP on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Both UTSA and UTEP enter the contest with 2-4 Conference USA marks a third of the way through league play.

• Fans are encouraged to wear WHITE to the game. The first 750 fans in attendance will receive a 'White Out' t-shirt.
 
Game overview
• UTSA continues Conference USA play Saturday evening with a home game against in-state foe UTEP. The game will tip at 7:30 p.m. from the Convocation Center in San Antonio. The contest will air on the Roadrunners Sports Network (92.5/93.3 The Bull in San Antonio) with Andy Everett providing play-by-play and Tim Carter serving as analyst. The game will also be televised in the San Antonio market on KMYS-CW35 with Mike Lefko (play-by-play) and Chuck Miketinac (analyst) on the call. 
 
Series history vs. UTEP
• UTSA and UTEP have met 13 times on the basketball court with the Miners holding a 10-3 advantage. The first game of the series was played in 1981 with UTEP winning 65-37 in El Paso. The Roadrunners picked up their first win in the series on Nov. 11, 2011 with a 73-64 triumph in El Paso. Since joining C-USA, UTSA is 2-6 against the Miners with the most recent win coming by a 67-55 margin on Jan. 1, 2016.
 
Roadrunners have a stranglehold on weekly C-USA freshman honor
• UTSA freshmen Jhivvan Jackson and Keaton Wallace have combined to win seven of the Conference USA's Freshman of the Week honors through the season's 10 weeks.
• Wallace has been bestowed the honor three times (Nov. 13, Dec. 4, Dec. 11), while Jackson has also earned the weekly plaudit four times (Nov. 20, Dec. 26, Jan. 2, Jan. 8).
• Head coach Steve Henson has now coached 11 C-USA Freshman of the Week award winners – the seven this season along with Byron Frohnen's three last season and Giovanni De Nicolao's one.
• UTSA had never produced a C-USA Freshman of the Week honoree prior to Henson's arrival in 2016. 
 
C-USA's top Scoring freshmen duo
• UTSA's Jhivvan Jackson and Keaton Wallace easily compose the top scoring freshman duo in Conference USA. Jackson leads the Roadrunners at 18.2 points per game, while Wallace averages 12.4. 
• Jackson is one of three freshmen among the top-30 scorers in C-USA, ranking fifth. UAB's Zack Bryant - 13.8 ppg - is 20th and  WKU's Taveion Hollingsworth - 12.8 ppg - is 28th.
 
Frohnen on the boards
• Sophomore forward Byron Frohnen leads UTSA and ranks seventh in Conference USA with per game average of 7.6 rebounds. 
• Frohnen, who starts at power forward, but also spends time at small forward, has totaled 145 total rebounds with 106 coming on the defensive end. 
• The Las Vegas native has led the Roadrunners on the glass in 11 games, including season-highs of 11 against Bethany, North Texas and FIU.
• Frohnen's 366 rebounds in only 52 career games ranks 20th on the UTSA career list. He needs 24 more to reach the top 15 and 95 to crack the top 10.
 
Willborn III makes impact off the bench; earns first starts of the season
• Sophomore guard George Willborn III has made an impact off the bench throughout the season for the Roadrunners, averaging 8.4 point per outing. 
• Willborn III was rewarded for his efforts on Jan. 11 with his first start of the season against FIU. The shooting guard did not disappoint, scoring 15 points -- his third straight and eighth time this season in double-figure -- to go along with seven rebounds and an assist, block and steal.
• The Chicago native also started against Florida Atlantic on Jan. 13 and totaled 11 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds and three steals. 
• As a starter, Willborn III is averaging 13.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per outing, while shooting 50.0 percent from the field. 
 
Jackson among top scoring freshmen in the nation
• As of Jan. 8, Jhivvan Jackson's 18.9 points per game rank sixth among freshmen scorers in the NCAA.

Freshmen bucket getters
• In just 19 games, Roadrunner freshmen Jhivvan Jackson and Keaton Wallace already rank among the top-10 freshmen scorers in UTSA history. Moreover, Jackson is already one of only five freshmen in UTSA history to score more than 300 points.
• In addition to Jackson and Wallace, the top-10 UTSA freshmen scoring list features current Roadrunner sophomores Byron Frohnen (280 points in 2016-17) and Giovanni De Nicolao (272 points in 2016-17). In less than two full seasons, head coach Steve Henson has recruited and coached four of the most prolific freshmen scorers in program history.
