EL DORADO, Ark. — Led by a final-round 76 from Zander Lozano, the UTSA men's golf team jumped up three spots into a fourth-place finish at the Duck Commander Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Mystic Creek Golf Club (par 72/7,289 yards).
Lozano's final 18 was highlighted by a birdie on the par-4 fourth, one of seven during the 54-hole tournament for the senior from Fair Oaks Ranch. The All-Conference USA performer vaulted up 10 spots into a tie for 15th with a 231 (79-76-76), his fourth top-15 showing of the fall campaign.
Meanwhile, Michael Rome also finished in a tie for 15th with a 231 (76-78-77) for his second top-15 performance of his debut season. The Austin native fired a 77 on Tuesday that featured a pair of birdies to help him match Lozano with the team high in that category.
The Roadrunners entered the final day in seventh place but jumped into fourth behind a final-round 314, the fourth-best round of the day. UTSA finished with a 929 (310-305-314), one spot ahead of Arkansas State and just three behind Central Arkansas en route to its fourth top-five finish of the year.
Chad Sewell also carded a final-round 77 on the strength of a trio of birdies, and the freshman from Conroe finished tied for 24th with a 235 (77-81-77).
Jake Goodman tied for 26th with a 236 (78-74-84) and Adam House tied for 52nd (84-77-84—245).
UNC Wilmington won the team title with a 916 behind individual champion Patrick Cover (70-74-78—222).
The Roadrunners will return to action on Jan. 29-30 at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson.
