Runner-up finish by Lozano guides UTSA to fifth at Bayou City Collegiate Classic

PEARLAND — Zander Lozano registered his second runner-up finish of his senior season to lead the UTSA men's golf team to fifth place at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, which wrapped up on Tuesday at Golfcrest Country Club (par 72/7,272 yards).

Lozano turned in his second straight 4-under-par 68 to help the Roadrunners to their third top-five showing in as many tournaments this fall. The Fair Oaks Ranch native wrote down three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 first en route to his school-record 20th sub-70 round. He posted an 8-under 208 (72-68-68) to end up four shots behind individual medalist Dawson Armstrong of Lipscomb (67-70-67—204) in the 84-man field.

Lozano's runner-up showing was his 13th career top 10 and his third of the fall. The all-conference performer finished the 54-hole event with 10 birdies and a pair of eagles.

Meanwhile, Adam House fired a 2-under 70 on Tuesday to jump into a tie for 11th at 1-under 215 (72-73-70). The sophomore registered four of his eight birdies in the final round and had a team-high 39 pars on the way to the second-best finish of his young career.

Lozano and House helped guide the Roadrunners to fifth in the 15-team field with a 3-over 867 (290-285-292), eight shots ahead of Conference USA foe Rice (875).

Michael Rome finished in a tie for 28th with a 73-72-75—220, while Jake Goodman and Chad Sewell rounded out the UTSA lineup in 57th (76-72-79—227) and 63rd (73-74-81—228), respectively. Competing as an individual, Tyler Walsh tied for 69th (76-79-75—230).

No. 30 Lipscomb won the team crown with a 15-under 849, followed by Arkansas State (856), Houston (862) and Sam Houston State (862).

The Roadrunners will return to action on Oct. 23-24 when they travel to Dallas for the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate.
