CHOUDRANT, La. — Zander Lozano registered his second straight top-10 finish to lead the UTSA men's golf team to fourth place at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Squire Creek Country Club (par 72/7,070 yards).
Lozano tied for ninth place with a 2-under-par 214 in posting his 12th career top 10. The senior fired a career-best 65 in the opening round, his school-record 18th career sub-70 round, and followed with a 74 and 75. The Fair Oaks Ranch native wrote down 15 birdies during the tournament, the second-best total in the field, and he played the par fives at 6-under.
The Roadrunners turned in their second consecutive fourth-place showing by carding a 3-over 867 (283-286-298). UTSA was two shots better than Abilene Christian and Central Arkansas and just five back of third-place Louisiana Tech. USF won the team title with an 843 behind individual medalist Cristian DiMarco's 8-under 208, while Stephen F. Austin was second (856) in the 14-team field.
Chad Sewell was the second-highest Roadrunner, as the freshman tied for 23rd with a 2-over 218. Sewell, who hails from Conroe, posted a 75 in the final round after opening with a 72-71—143 on Monday.
Adam House was one shot behind Sewell with a 219, which put him in a tie for 27th. The sophomore from Rockwall also registered a 75 on Tuesday after a 73-71—144 on the first day.
Jake Goodman turned in the Roadrunners' best score of the final round with a 1-over 73. The senior from San Antonio tied for 29th with a 220 (77-70-73) and he posted 10 birdies during the event.
Michael Rome rounded out the lineup in a tie for 46th with a 73-77-75—225, while Sean Meehan was 53rd with a 78-75-74—227 while competing as an individual.
The Roadrunners will return to action on Oct. 9-10 when they travel to Pearland to compete in the Bayou City Intercollegiate.
