SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's tennis team opened its fall campaign in a pair of tournaments. The Roadrunners split between the Contender Crossfit Islander Open in Corpus Christi and The Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland.
Joao Ceolin won the flight 2 singles final at The Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational, while Kai Breitbach earned three singles victories during the weekend.
Ceolin posted straight-sets wins against UT Arlington's Sangidh Kommaraju (6-3, 6-4) and Wichita State's Andre Caligiana (7-6, 6-4) to reach the final match. The Porto Alegre, Brazil, native then battled Abilene Christian's Henry Adams in a three-set thriller to clinch the final contest (6-3, 5-7, 1-0 [10-7]).
Meanwhile, UTSA picked up a total of six wins in Corpus Christi. Gabriel Bugiga earned three of those victories, including two in singles competition.
The Roadrunners will continue the fall season this weekend at the St. Mary's Quad in San Antonio. The action begins Friday and will wrap up two days later.Contender Crossfit Islander Open (UTSA Results)
