SAN ANTONIO – Stephen F. Austin scored two goals in the final half to rally from a 1-0 halftime deficit and hand UTSA a 2-1 loss on Thursday night at Park West Athletics Complex.
The Roadrunners (1-2) took a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute as Channing Machen hit a lofting shot from the corner of the 18-yard box that carried over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
The Ladyjacks (1-2) answered in the 47th minute, as Madison Hall played a ball across the box that made it over to Hanna Barker, who took a shot that made it over the goalkeeper and into the net.
Thirty-three minutes later, Barker was set free into the box before cutting the ball across the front of the goal for Katelyn Termini, who played it across the line for the game-winning score.
UTSA had its chances for goals in the second half, but was unable to take advantage of scoring opportunities.
Machen and Harper Luczka both put shots on target that were saved, while Ellis Patterson had an shot in the final minute that hit off the post before being tracked down by SFA.
The Roadrunners attempted 14 shots, including eight on goal, and were awarded five corner kicks. Stephen F. Austin had 10 attempts, including five on target, and one corner kick.
Madeline Talbot came off the bench to record three saves for the Ladyjacks and secure the victory.
UTSA was scheduled to play Incarnate Word on Sunday, but Hurricane Harvey has forced the contest to be postponed. No makeup date has been announced.
The Roadrunners will travel to Waco on Friday, Sept. 1, for a non-conference tilt with Baylor. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
