IRVING — Conference USA Commissioner Judy MacLeod announced Wednesday that UTSA men's track & field student-athlete Randy Bermea has received the C-USA Spring Spirit of Service award.
The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport.
Bermea, who just wrapped up his senior season for the Roadrunners, was instrumental in launching UTSA's One Love 'That's Not Love' campaign. He also has served as a May Elementary School, Rhodes Elementary School and SAISD Leadership Academy motivational speaker along with being a Make-A-Wish Foundation Believe Campaign Kickoff volunteer. The Harlingen native was a C-USA Academic Medal recipient in addition to being named to this year's Commissioner's Honor Roll. Bermea qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship Preliminary Rounds and advanced to the national quarterfinals in the 400-meter hurdles after racing to a gold medal in the event at last month's C-USA Championships.
The Spirit of Service award is presented three times throughout the season, with today's honorees representing the spring sports of baseball, golf, rowing, softball, tennis, and outdoor track & field.
