Lozano to begin NCAA postseason play on Monday at Baton Rouge Regional

SAN ANTONIO — Zander Lozano will become the third Roadrunner to participate in the NCAA Division I Men's Golf postseason when he competes at the NCAA Championship Baton Rouge Regional. The three-day tournament hosted by LSU begins on Monday, May 15, at the University Club (par 72/7,372 yards).

The field of 14 teams and five individuals will play 18 holes each day with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday and 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Baton Rouge Regional is one of six 54-hole regional tournaments across the country. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championship finals, which will be played from May 26-31 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.

Lozano will join Magnus Dohlvik and Mike Mezei as Roadrunners who have advanced to the NCAA postseason.

Dohlvik carded a 76-73-74=223 to tie for 75th at the 1998 NCAA Central Regional at Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, while Mezei tied for 91st after posting an 83-74-80=237 at the 2004 NCAA Central Regional in West Lafayette, Ind.

A second-team All-Conference USA selection, Lozano leads the Roadrunners with a career-best 71.79 stroke average and seven top-20 finishes, including a pair of individual titles, this season. The Fair Oaks Ranch native has placed in the top 10 four times, highlighted by winning Price's "Give 'Em Five" Invitational with a school-record 14-under-par 202 (66-70-66) to help guide UTSA to a runner-up finish last October in El Paso. He also tied for first at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate after firing a 5-under 208 (72-69-67) last September. He now owns 10 career top 10s.

Lozano tied for sixth place at back-to-back tournaments in March when he carded a 71-68=139 at the rain-shortened Border Olympics and a 69-66-74=209 at the Lone Star Invitational at Briggs Ranch Golf Club. He turned in a 223 (73-74-76) to tie for 17th at the C-USA Championship in his last outing.

A two-time C-USA Player of the Week honoree this season, Lozano has broken 70 10 times during his junior campaign and he owns the school record with 16 career sub-70 rounds.
