TEXARKANA, Ark. — Led by top-25 finishes from Bryce Alley and Zander Lozano, UTSA finished seventh at the Conference USA Championship, which concluded stroke play on Monday at Texarkana Country Club (par 72/6,969 yards).
Lozano tied for 17th and Alley finished in a tie for 23rd to lead the Roadrunners to a 902, just two shots behind sixth-place Marshall (900) and nine out of a tie for fourth place between Middle Tennessee and Southern Miss. UTSA finished one stroke ahead of UAB and three in front of Rice in the 13-team field.
Lozano carded a 223 en route to the seventh top-20 performance of his junior campaign. After firing a 1-over-par 73 in Sunday's opening round, he posted a 74 on Monday morning and wrapped up the 54-hole event with a 76. The Fair Oaks Ranch native wrote down seven birdies for the week en route to finishing as the top Roadrunner at the league tournament for the second straight season.
Meanwhile, Alley was one shot and six places behind Lozano in a tie for 23rd with a 224. The Longview native turned in a pair of 75s on Monday to follow the 74 he posted on Sunday. The senior matched Lozano with seven birdies in the highest conference finish of his career.
Sean Meehan tied for 29th with a 228. The sophomore from San Antonio bounced back from Sunday's 79 with a 75 and a 74, which featured four of his seven birdies, on Monday.
Collin Clark tied for 39th with a 232 (79-78-75) and the freshman from Mansfield led all Roadrunners with eight birdies for the tournament.
Adam House rounded out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 45th with a 234 (76-76-82).
UTEP finished stroke play atop the team standings with an 879. North Texas was second with an 883 and Charlotte claimed the third of four match-play spots with an 892. Middle Tennessee and Southern Miss will hold a playoff on Tuesday morning to determine the final spot.
Charlotte's Seth Gandy captured individual medalist honors with a 2-under 214 (67-71-76).
The match play semifinals will be held on Tuesday morning and the two winners will face off for the team title and automatic NCAA postseason berth that afternoon.
