SAN ANTONIO — Six meets are in the books for the UTSA men's track & field team this outdoor season and the Roadrunners have three athletes that rank among the top 25 nationally in their respective events.
Leading the way is Patrick Prince, who ranks 15th in the country in the 110-meter hurdles. The sophomore from Conroe clocked a career-best time of 13.79 back on March 30 at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin. It was the second-fastest performance in program history.
Meanwhile, Adrian Riley currently stands 22nd nationally in the decathlon. His personal-record score of 7,318 points came from March 23-24 at the Roadrunners Invitational and it was the fourth-best effort in school annals.
The Roadrunners' other athlete in the top 25 is Vasha Sheriff, who is 25th in the 400m with his career-best time of 46.45 that came on March 25 at the Roadrunners Invitational. It was the third-fastest clocking in UTSA history.
As for the Conference USA standings, Roadrunners athletes and relays sit atop the league standings in four events, rank second in five and third in three.
Prince owns the league's top 110m hurdles time, while Ty Anderson, Randy Bermea and Gabe Vargas also have registered top marks in the circuit this spring.
Anderson cleared a season-high 6-11 ¾ (2.13m) last weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays, Bermea clocked a season-best time of 52.29 in the 400m hurdles on March 30 at the Texas Relays and Vargas recorded a career-long measurement of 57-5 ½ (17.51m) on March 17 at the season-opening UTSA Invitational.
The squad's second-place marks have come from its 400m relay (40.09), Kelsey Benoit (shot put/57-3 ¾/17.47m) Barrett Brock (pole vault/16-4 ¾/5.00m), Riley (decathlon) and Sheriff (400m), while the third-place performances have come from Derek Fenton (discus/171-4/52.22m), Tyler Finke (shot put/57-2 ¾/17.44m) and Victor Perez (hammer/UTSA-record 206-3/62.87m).
UTSA will continue its campaign at Saturday's J. Fred Duckett Twilight in Houston.
