ARLINGTON — Kai Breitbach and Igor Cantanhede combined for a doubles victory, but it was not enough in a 7-0 loss for the UTSA men's tennis team at UT Arlington on Saturday at the UTA Tennis Center.
Breitbach and Cantanhede paired up for the first time this season and raced past Mario Muniesa and Marcos Sanz for a 6-2 triumph at No. 2 doubles.
However, the Mavericks (14-7) were victorious on the other two courts to take the doubles point and a 1-0 lead out of the gates.
In singles, UTA posted straight-set wins at the top of the lineup when Jhonathan Gonzalez beat Juri Reckow, 6-2, 6-2, and at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph by Guanarteme Nuez over Patrick Poestinger to extend the lead to 3-0.
The other four contests went to third sets, where the Mavericks ended up on top in all four for the 7-0 final margin.
The Roadrunners (5-16) will host Trinity in their final home match of the season at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, at the UTSA Tennis Center.
