COLLEGE STATION — UTSA defeated Georgetown, 7-6, before an 8-0 setback in six innings against No. 5 Texas A&M on Sunday's final day of this weekend's Texas A&M Invitational.
Bailee Baldwin recorded three hits, including a pair of homers, and four RBIs during the day to lead the Roadrunners (9-11). Rylee Rodriguez also had three hits, while Lizzy Fox evened her record at 7-7 after she allowed a run off two hits in two innings of relief in game one.
Against the Hoyas (4-13) in the first game of the day, Baldwin recorded her first multi-homer game and Taylor Oberg's single in the bottom of the seventh pushed UTSA to a 7-6 win.
After Nicole Merrill inherited and escaped a jam in the top of the first, the Roadrunners struck for four runs in the bottom of the inning. Celeste Loughman walked and moved to third following a pair of wild pitches before she came home on a Rodriguez single.
Two batters later, Kaley Pyles walked and all three were able to trot home on Baldwin's first homer of the contest for a 4-0 lead.
Georgetown cut the lead in half with a run in the third and another in the fourth, but Lindsey Stewart singled home Oberg in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead back to 5-2.
However, the Hoyas knotted the ledger with a three-run homer of their own in the top of the fifth, only to see the Roadrunners again answer in the bottom of the frame to regain the lead.
With two outs, Baldwin took the first pitch that she saw over the wall in right for her career-best fifth homer of the season and a 6-5 advantage.
Once again, Georgetown came back with a solo homer in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 6-all.
In the bottom of the seventh, Pyles started the fame with a single to center field and she advance to second on an error. A deep fly ball from Baldwin allowed Pyles to move to third and, with two outs, Oberg came through with a single to right that brought the winning run home.
Fox picked up the win in relief with a pair of strikeouts over the final two innings.
In the second game of the day, UTSA stranded nine runners, while the Aggies (19-1) scored a run in the third, two in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the sixth for the 8-0 run-rule victory.
UTSA left at least one runner on base in five of the six innings. The visitors had their best chance in the top of the first, when they left the bases loaded following a hit by Stewart and a pair of walks.
In the circle, Chelsea Parker held Texas A&M without a hit for the first two innings before it could break through in the bottom of the third.
UTSA will be back in action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, when it will make the short drive north to face Texas (11-9) at Red & Charline McCombs Field. The contest can be seen on Longhorn Network.
