COLLEGE STATION — Bailee Baldwin's two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth lifted UTSA to a 6-5 victory against Prairie View A&M on Saturday morning at the Texas A&M Invitational.
UTSA's game later in the day against Georgetown (4-12) was rescheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday due to rain in the area. The Roadrunners (8-10) also will take on No. 5 Texas A&M (17-1) for the second time this weekend at 2:30 p.m. on the final day of the event.
Lindsey Stewart and Baldwin each went 2-for-3 at the plate and Baldwin led the way with three RBIs. Rylee Rodriguez, Randee Crawford and Kaley Pyles each drove in runs and Lizzy Fox improved to 6-7 in the circle with 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.
The Roadrunners jumped ahead of the Panthers (1-14) with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Rodriguez got the scoring started with an RBI double to plate Stewart before a grounder off the bat of Crawford brought Celeste Loughman home. Pyles then doubled home Rodriguez and she came around to score on the second triple of Baldwin's career.
However, Prairie View A&M stormed back with a run in the fourth and a four-spot an inning later to grab a 5-4 edge.
In the bottom of the fifth, Pyles coaxed a one-out walk to get on base before Baldwin launched the fourth pitch of her at-bat over the wall in right to pull UTSA ahead, 6-5. The blast was the third of the season for the sophomore.
Working with a one-run lead, Fox surrendered a pair of singles in the sixth, but got out of the jam. She then retired the Panthers in order in the top of the seventh to secure the 6-5 victory.
