SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's tennis team won its second straight match with a 5-2 decision against Navy on Thursday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners (5-12) won all three doubles contests and were victorious on four of the six singles courts in their first-ever meeting with the Midshipmen (13-14).
Patrick Poestinger and Juri Reckow got UTSA off to a solid start by downing Cameron Kirkpatrick and Ian Landwehr, 6-3, at No. 2 doubles.
Fabian Brand and Igor Cantanhede then secured the first point of the day with a 6-4 triumph over Zach Jennings and Gabriel Pilones on center court.
For good measure, Christian Carrillo and Takeru Watanabe posted a 6-4 victory against Matthew Lee and Andrey Majkic at No. 3.
The Roadrunners raced out to a 3-0 advantage after Watanabe registered a 6-3, 6-1 sweep of Landwehr at No. 4 singles and Kai Breitbach beat Pilones, 6-2, 6-3 at the top of the lineup.
Navy rallied to within 3-2 after Jennings defeated Reckow, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 2 and Lee beat Axel Cronje, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 at the third spot.
However, Gabriel Borunda clinched the match for the home team with a 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) win against Kirkpatrick at No. 6.
Cantanhede also rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Majkic at No. 5 to provide the final margin.
The Roadrunners will close out their three-match home stand against Marquette (8-4) at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
