CENTENNIAL, Colo. — The UTSA men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision at Denver on Sunday in a match played that was played indoors at Lifetime Fitness.
The Pioneers (4-5) snagged an early one-point advantage by coming up with victories in a pair of doubles contests.
Pedro Del Valle and Sean Huynh combined for a 6-3 triumph over Fabian Brand and Takeru Watanabe at No. 3, and Alex Gasson and Yannik James secured the 1-0 lead with a 6-4 decision against Christian Carrillo and Juri Reckow at the top of the lineup.
In singles, James swept Kai Breitbach, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 to give the home team a 2-0 lead.
Gasson pushed the advantage to three when he downed Axel Cronje by a 6-2, 6-2 count at the third spot.
Huynh then clinched the victory when he defeated Carrillo, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 6.
The Roadrunners (2-7) will return to action next weekend when they travel to Corpus Christi for the three-day H-E-B Tournament of Champions. The event is scheduled to begin on Friday, March 3.
