Lozano leads UTSA to ninth place at All-American Intercollegiate

HUMBLE — Zander Lozano tied for 13th to lead the UTSA men's golf team to ninth place at the All-American Intercollegiate, which wrapped up on Sunday at the Golf Club of Houston (par 72/7,067 yards).

Lozano carded his second straight sub-70 round to lead the Roadrunners on the final day of the 54-hole event. The junior followed Saturday's 69 with a 5-under-par 67 that was highlighted by five birdies, including four en route to a 32 on the back nine.

The Fair Oaks Ranch native vaulted from a tie for 45th after 36 holes into a tie for 13th at 3-under 213 (77-69-67), his 12th career top-20 finish. His final round marked the second time he has turned in a 67 this season, one off his career best of 66, which he has posted twice this campaign. Lozano now joins Gibby Martens atop the school's record book with 13 sub-70 rounds, seven of them coming in 2016-17.

Bryce Alley was just two shots behind Lozano after registering a 1-under 215 (70-74-71) to tie for 19th. The senior from Longview wrote down six birdies as part of a 71 on Sunday and he led the Roadrunners with 14 for the event, which was tied with three others for tops in the 96-man field.

Behind Lozano and Alley, UTSA finished ninth with a 5-over 869 in the 18-team field. The Roadrunners recorded their low round of the tournament on Sunday with a 3-under 285, a three-shot improvement from Saturday. The Birds finished four shots ahead of Charlotte (873) and nine in front of Louisiana Tech and SMU, and they were just one stroke behind McNeese State (686).

Sean Meehan tied for 56th with a 222 (72-74-76), while Collin Clark and Adam House tied for 67th (79-71-75—225) and 73rd (77-78-72—227), respectively.

No. 13 Baylor captured the team title with a 28-under 836 behind individual medalist Cooper Dossey's 10-under 206 (68-66-72). Top-ranked Vanderbilt was the runner-up (841), while Houston (852), No. 39 South Carolina (859) and No. 21 Auburn (862) rounded out the top five.

The Roadrunners will return to action next week when they travel to Lafayette, La., for the Louisiana Classics. The two-day tournament is scheduled to begin on Monday, Feb. 27.
