Roadrunners drop season opener at No. 4 Texas on Thursday

AUSTIN — The UTSA men's tennis team dropped its season opener, 7-0, at No. 4 Texas on Thursday afternoon at Weller Indoor Tennis Center.

The Longhorns (1-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead by claiming the doubles point.

The 38th-ranked tandem of Yuya Ito and Harrison Scott blanked UTSA's Kai Breitbach and Patrick Poestinger, 6-0, at No. 2 doubles. Colin Markes and Leo Telles then secured the point with a 6-3 decision against Fabian Brand and Igor Cantanhede at the top of the lineup.

In singles, Texas swept all but one of the six matches en route to the shutout.

George Goldhoff scored a 6-3, 6-1 win against Takeru Watanabe at No. 2 to secure a 4-0 lead and clinch the contest for the home team.

UTSA's Leon Hein took Markes to a third set at No. 6 after countering a 6-4 setback in the opening frame with a 6-3 decision in set two. Markes eventually came out on top with a 10-5 tally in a super tiebreaker.
